Bilingual creative workshop for the 21st edition of the Festival
International du Film Ethnographique du Québec in Montréal,
designed and facilitated in collaboration with visual
anthropologist Danya Leal Romero, with support from the FIFEQ
committee.
First, a 15-20 minute lecture was provided to familiarize
participants with the history of ethnographic filmmaking, in
particular the invisible power dynamics behind representation in
anthropology. Afterwards, participants worked together to plan,
film, and edit a short ethnographic film sequence on the theme of
partial perspectives, with guidance from the workshop hosts. The
final products were screened at the closing party in the evening.
